I started this Blog for my boys and their wives to get favorite recipes from growing up and beyond.

One Hour French Bread
2 1/2 cups warm water
3 T. Sugar
2 tsp. salt
2 pkg. (or 4 1/2 tsp) yeast
2 T. oil
6 c. flour
Mix all ingredients using only 3 cups flour, mix well, slowly adding in the reamining flour to make a nice soft dough. Mine is usually pretty sticky, but will firm up in the "rest" time. Let rise 10 minutes then make into 2 long french loaves, or 3 small french loaves, let rise 15 minutes and bake at 415 degrees for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and brush top with butter.
This is the fastest and easiest bread recipe. It is most delightful when eaten fresh, but is still good the next day. We love to use a day (or overnight) old loaf to make french toast.....to die for if you let the slices soak a little in the egg mixture.
